This thread is for members to talk about whatever they're currently watching and reading <3

Kirarin Revolution! I just started watching this the other day and I like it so far c: It's pretty typical shoujo faire; basically, this girl named Kirari Tsukushima falls for a male idol and decides to become an idol to become closer to him (apparently we're supposed to ignore that in real life idols aren't allowed to have relationships at all?). It's very cute though c: The main character and all of the show's theme songs were done by Koharu Kusumi, a then-member of the idol group Morning Musume.

Whats the name of the show? I kinda can't read Japanese. XD lol

Um, my bf is watching Dragonball Kai since we haven't seen it. It's not bad so far. I'll occasionally watch random episodes of Sailor Moon or one of the musicals or whatever.

I also was in the middle of reading Deep Secret by Diana Wynn Jones. It's pretty good so far. Good standard fantasy novel with good humor and a present day twist. Btw, Diana Wynn Jones, for those that don't know, is the author of Howl's Moving Castle and if you loved the Miyazaki movie, then you have GOT to read the novel and get into more of her works! She is an amazing author and was such a prominent figure in the fantasy genre. Sadly, she died recently, this past March in fact. Sad

@Mercury- I watched the first episode of Utena ages ago- I liked it but I never got around to watching any more of it. I should start watching it again soon, I've heard amazing things about it.

@Brit- LOL, I forgot to put the title. I'll edit the post xD I love DBZkai! I was never into DBZ as a kid (I was a girl, therefore it looked stupid) but I watch Kai sometimes at my friend's house and I love it. The first time I watched it I was like "OMG I TOTALLY GET THE APPEAL NOW."
asdsdfdafsd DIANA WYNNE JONES DIED? I didn't hear DDD: That's really sad actually, I loved her work ; -; I was one of those lucky few who read Howl's Moving Castle before Miyazaki was even planning to make a movie of it.

I only wish I had know about her earlier! I've read several of her other novels now,. The Chrestomanci series...is so OMG. And did you read the newest one in the howl's moving castle world? House of Many Ways? OH IT WAS GREAT.

And lol about DBZ. I got into it right when they introduced Trunks. GOD I WAS HOOKED. That man is a hunk!

Ooh, I only read Howl's Moving Castle and Castle in the Sky o: I didn't know there were others, I'll have to read that after I'm done Harry Potter (I'm reading the seventh book for the first time somehow). I first got into DBZ during the Freeza saga during one of those marathons- I literally watched it for eight hours straight and he was still fighting the exact same guy xD

Oh yes! You need to read more of her work. Just go to Barnes&Noble or Books-A-Million or whatever bookstore and be like "ALL OF DIANA WYNN JONES PLEASE". Lol! But seriously, she's an amazing writer. Deep Secret is really interesting. It goes into the multiple dimension things and about these sort of mage people that travel between the different worlds to get there. But it all has a present day feel to it too.

AGJHAGKJAAH BRIT-CHAN AND ELLA -- YOU GIRLS ARE KILLING ME!!!!! In the best of ways! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

DBZ and DBZ Kai = complete love! My sisters always watched it and I was never too interested in it because of all the yelling. lol. (Besides, I had Sailor Moon). I started getting into it during the great Goku & Frieza battle and, like Brit-chan, once Trunks came into the picture IT WAS ALL OVER FOR ME.

I absolutely love Kai as well. When I heard about the changes and episode cuts I was a bit peeved at first. But since I already watched it in its original state and I KNOW how insane those long drawn out filler moments can be, I love Kai. How gorgeous is the quality??? MY GOSH! Thank god they kept the voices. If they changed the voices, I would have had to shoot some one. There is no one like Vegeta's voice and Goku and Piccolo. Very Happy I have to confess that I was somewhat depressed that they changed Bulma's VA though. Her voice was so distinctive, it was just epic all to itself. But, oh well, I guess. As long as I have my boys. Smile

DBZ is one the very RARE anime in which I prefer the DUB to the Sub. I am sorry but the japanese seiyuu just cannot compare. (of course, you all are free to disagree with me too!)

But seriously. Vegeta's husky throaty voice? Can not be compared. And when he and Goku scream? My gosh.

I do have to say I miss Vegeta's and Piccolo's original voice from the very first ever DBZ dub, like the really baddly censored one. As bad as the writing was (remember all the mondo cool that krillan said?) those were some good voices. I actually don't mind the Japanese voices. But for DBZ and DB Kai, i'm one of those where i can watch it dub and not really care either way.

Oh and other stuff I'm watching. I started on rewatching Outlaw Star. I never got to watch it all subbed, so i'm going to slowly do that. Also I downloaded Record of Lodoss War, the tv series and OVAs and movies to watch. That'll be slow, but i still enjoy it. And I did download Puella Magi Madoka Magica to watch. I only watched the first ep so far. Its interesting to say the least. I've heard good things about it as it goes on, so i'll eventually watch the rest.

Also, I am eagerly awating the rest of season 6 of Doctor Who to air this fall. I also should be watching Torchwood, but i keep forgetting. XD

Oh wow, I never attempted to watch Outlaw Star subbed In general, I like the dubbed voices that were on Adult Swim. Those VA actually sounded like they were trying. But I know that Subs are usually superior. I miss Outlaw Star. I'd like to watch it again. I don't think I got to see all of them when they were aired on AS.

Oh you should watch it subbed! Just for the sake of rewatching it. It was a good series.

I was one of those that really had liked the dub, but now watching it subbed, i tried to listen to it dubbed again and i was like "ummm no." and switched it back immediately! I dunno why but they aren't horrible but i think i just preferred the japanese voice. :/

I'm currently reading through Death Note. I finished Volume 8 a day or two ago.

Quickly on the topic of Dragon Ball Kai, more specifically the dubbed voices vs. the original Japanese, I lean toward the latter in terms of preference when watching the episodes (this is only increased when several DBZ seiyuu were involved in Sailor Moon: Vegeta's Japanese seiyuu, Ryou Horikawa, was Thomas Harris in episode 119; Norio Wakamoto, the seiyuu for Cell, was Yusuke Amade in episode 6). I do, however, respect the fact that some of the voicing techniques wouldn't work well in English. For example, adult Goku's high-pitched and childish tone in Japanese would be difficult to take seriously if transferred over into English. Overall, I admire what the English VAs have done in more recent outings with better writing and translations.

Well said! Also I find that the English dub is not as ear grating as dubs used to be. But i think thats cause funimation has fine tuned its voice acting talents. A lot of them are now well experienced. Another anime that I rather enjoyed in English (but still prefer the sub) was Ouran Host Club.

OMG. I was watching an episode of Ouran in its dubbed form and OMG Haruhi sounded horrible. The others were okay but they used corny language. At least with the Japanese if they're using corny language, I don't understand it. LOL. It was so horrible that I stopped watching it.

I haven't been watching TV lately but I am always enjoying the re-runs of Monk when it comes on! Really, one of my favorite tv shows. Quite a rarity, I think. ^^

I have currently been watching really cheesy ghost shows... I love the ones on the Travel Channel

There is one show where I swear the three investigators or high when they're filming but they're always like COME AT ME BRO at the ghosts....

And then there's another show where a guy and his family go into haunted places to investigate if an object is causing the hauntings... And then they take it. I think it's the stupidest/cleverest thing to do. Get paid for a show and steal people's crap.

Aw, it is so brilliant! Yes, it is a comedy, but not the over-the-top kind. It is about an OCD detective who is a consultant to the LA police force. He has all these quirks and such and is played magnificently by Tony Shalhoub. The show is not dramatic or intense but just has this wonderfully amusing and delightful flow to it. The other characters in the show are played by really wonderful actors who settle into their roles so comfortably and perfectly. I would really advise that you watch it. It was on USA and I believe there were five seasons? Possibly more.

I tried to find a good clip but there are not too many on yourtube. Here is a small bit of just Adrian Monk.

Ehm... all kinds of stuff in Swedish which is not known to the outside world, I think. (A book of essays by Jonas Gardell and a biography of Swedish journalist and general badass Barbro Alving, for example.) Then for manga I'm reading Wandering Son by Shimura Takako, which is pretty amazing if not exactly high-speed; & Ooku by Yoshinaga Fumi which is brilliant alternative history and feminist critique and good story all in one, with added gay, o Yoshinaga Fumi sometimes it is like you write stories just for me.

I'm re-watching Utena for the nth time, and trying to finish off the last few episodes of Oniisama e... (I love the manga of this series - by Ikeda Riyoko of Rose of Versailles fame - but the anime is really, really slow paced. As the manga is full of things going terribly wrong for people and horrible things happening this means that watching the anime is a very drawn-out process with the added kicker of knowing where it's going and wondering how long it's going to take to get there. I do actually like the anime as well, but I have trouble watching much at once because of the concentrated angst.), and hauling my way slowly through Legend of the Galactic Heros, affectionately known as Boring Gay Germans In Space, or, All Exposition All The Time. Kind of brilliant and terrible at once? I watch a bit and then I have to watch an episode of some ridiculous mecha or other because wow, the moral of this series is basically "war is extremely boring and also horrific, and by the way both sides are terrible people." On the bright side, it has Yang, who only ever wanted to drink tea with booze in and read all the history books (both life goals I can identify with) but seems doomed to save half the galaxy time and time again, rather against his will.

It's going to take me a long time to finish this one, considering I am pretty sure it totals more episodes than Sailor Moon without being as marathonable...

I'm reading my first manga besides "Sailor Moon" currently - "Toraware no Minoue" by Hino Matsuri *_*

And I really like it! *_* By the way, I didn't know Hino Matsuri was the one who draw "Vampire Knight" when I bought this. XD

I read almost all of Vampire Knight that was up on One Manga before that site was shut down. It was REALLY good. Like one of those stories that I could not stop reading the second I started. I haven't read that one, but I'm assuming if you like that one and the art, you will enjoy Vampire Knight.

At the moment, I'm reading Beyond the Gap by Harry Turtledove. It's been fun so far, though hard to explain...

As for watching, I'm rewatching Lupin III (s1 and 2). I've been meaning to watch Revolutionary Girl Utena, but my usual site doesn't have it uploaded anymore. I did watch Outlaw Star the other week, and I <3 the ending themes. I forgot how surprising it started off. o_O

I didn't know Ouran Host Club had been dubbed! Shows how much I keep up on the dubs... v.v

@Jupiter - I can never watch the early seasons when Monk had the first assistant. I only like the ones with Natalie Teeger. I looovvved when USA did the crossover commercials with Monk and Psych. That was great! xD

@Brit-chan - I think Trunks was the first anime guy I had a crush on. =^_^=

Black Bird. It's weird, and I'm not sure if I like it yet or not..

I found my old manga collection of SM, so of course I'm re-reading it! ^-^

Just now I'm watching Aoi Hana! I should probably read the manga though. Smile Since it's the storytelling that I like and the art & animation are just kind of... there. I don't get anything much from them in and of themselves. (I borderline-dislike that style of anime art, which is unfortunate since it's everywhere just now - it feels kind of empty to me.)

But hey yuri. Very Happy

@Tempy -- You do not like Sharona?? Aw, I love her! But I watched Monk from the beginning, so Natalie was difficult for me at first. She has a completely different interaction and chemistry with Monk than Sharona, so I can see why you would not like Sharona if you saw Natalie first. I like the first seasons because they have a bit more sarcasm. Razz I did not like Natalie at first, but once she settled into her role, I grew to like her.

@V-Babe -- I was reading Black Bird! I was reading the american publications though, so there was always this long delay in between each book release. Sadly, the gaps in between caused me to lose interest, and aside from SM and one other shoujo, I only like yaoi relationships. lol. I can't get into straight. But whenever I go to the bookstore I skim through the newest issues to see how things are going. I did really like it at first.

@Toft -- Know of any good yuri? So many are so empty and pwp. :\
