I got the FMA Brotherhood DVDs when they were on sale at Amazon one year for my birthday.  It was like $30 for each set so that was a really sweet deal.  I'm sure they'll probably have them on sale again sometime.  I also need to get the omnibus edition to finish the manga sometime and I still need to get the OVA shorts for both the original FMA and Brotherhood.  I've seen the Star of Milos movie on Netflix but I need to buy it on DVD just to be complete though I don't like the movie as much as the series.

I own the Brotherhood OVA Short DVDs. It has the three OVAs and those little theater shorts. Those are so funny. XD

I have yet to watch Star of Milos. My friend told me it's not worth it.

It's basically your standard two hour shonen filler in movie where Ed and Al have to save a Sad Girl With A Dark Past played by Maaya Sakamoto, the characters don't act like their proper personalities any, and the animation is subpar compared to the TV series. And for some reason, they made the movie ultra violent too, like sometimes it's almost Akira-levels of violence.

Many of my friends are obsessed with this. My old college's anime club even showed an episode of Brotherhood once. But I'm not into it, and have seen neither the anime or read the manga. Sorry, guys! It's just not my cup of tea.

awww it's such a good series. Very deep too.

I would love to have a movie about their adventures after the story ended. Or at least an OVA.

Like what Al did in Xing? Cause that would have been awesome or how Ed adjusted to no longer having alchemy? OR IF ROY BECAME FURHER!

ALL THE POSSIBILITIES!!

Or Ed just being a father...

The Blind Alchemist OVA gives me the goosebumps when I watch it.

Yes from Brotherhood. Ed and All meet an Alchemist who brought a girl back to life. He became blind in the process. Go watch it. I won't ruin it.

There are two other OVAs from Brotherhood. One with Izumi training in the mountains and the other with Roy at a training camp.

I've seen the OVA shorts for the original FMA series but I didn't know about the Brotherhood OVAs so I should check them out.

I love FMA. Have loved it ever since I was in high school... I think it's very unique in that it manages to stay on point for most of its run (I'm talking about the manga), and the story and messages have a lot more substance than other very popular "large" series (think Naruto or Bleach). And of course, the characters and their development are brilliant

So which version do I like better?

Brotherhood and the manga!! I usually hate carbon copy animes, but I was okay with Brotherhood being more faithful. The author wrote her characters very well and gave time for the plot to develop. Her story translates really well in anime format so it doesn't really need filler. Although I wished brotherhood didn't skip the mine chapters and had a little bit of filler.

I think part of what made Brotherhood so good was how high quality the production values were.  Brotherhood always had amazingly beautiful animation and music and it was always consistent in quality.  Even if it was just a carbon copy of the manga, Sailor Moon Crystal would have been ten times better if it had the animation quality FMA Brotherhood had.

Agreed.

The OST for Brotherhood. ;-;

I love Lapis Philosophorum to death. I love all three versions!

I love FMA, but I like brotherhood better-especially the ending of brotherhood. I didn't like the ending of FMA as well, even though it was good for the one movie. I've seen all of FMA, Brotherhood, both FMA movies and am not sure if I've seen the OVAs and shorts. I haven't read the manga-even though I have a few of them in hardback!

So quick question guys: when I get around to watching the anime (I plan on watching the original first and then Brotherhood) should it be dub or sub? I 've heard the dub is actually better... and I think it'd be weird to watch it in Japanese cause the characters all have English names...

I originally watched FMA in Japanese and really enjoyed it and then i ended up watching it dubbed on Adult Swim and found it just as enjoyable. So i think its up to you with what you prefer. I tend to prefer subs of most anime I watch even if it has a really well done dub.

I'll watch an anime subbed if it's only subbed or has a bad dub, but I lean towards dubs a bit more. To be totally honest I don't care either way.

The FMA dub was really good from what I remember. Its been a long time since I watched it, but if you tend to prefer dubs when its good and available, I'd say go for it. Smile

I absolutely love the original Fullmetal anime and really hate Brotherhood. Though actually I do like the manga. The fact is that I have deep and painful emotional issues with FMAB, which made me loathe it.

Also, FMAB threw FMA in the shadows. Many people don´t even know about the 2003 series. Which is really unfair, since it´s really good. I like it so much that I bought the USA deluxe version of Shamballa... And I live in Brazil. They never released this movie here. But we do have the dubbed version of both series and all the manga.

The first FMA is really dear to me. I love the characters, the story, the voice actors, the songs... I love it so much.
