Has anyone seen this series?



It definatly draws you in when you start watching, just wondering if anyone else had any insight on what they thought about it. It is a definite twist on Magical Girl but very well done.

I've seen it. It's a riff on Sailor Moon, with Sailor Moon being smug and facing a terrible fate early on, Pluto doing her usual time-travel + protecting Chibi Usa, and Chibi Usa being the main character. And Mercury goes nuts, and Mars is still in a religious family... For real, the whole thing is a thinly-disguised SM AU fanfic.

However, I love the art and music in it- even though the plot itself is dark, and the characters are ganked from SM.

I really like it!

HOWEVER, I do feel like it's been overhyped as this DARK! GRIM! MAGICAL GIRL SERIES THAT IS AMAZING AND IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN ALL OTHER MAGICAL GIRL ANIMES AND IT'S A DECONSTRUCTION AND YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT

I mean, I feel like my expectations were set too high for the series. It WAS really great, but I've seen much darker and philosophical series before. But I DO like it a lot!

I agree with Starwind, the art and ESPECIALLY the music is just stunning. I have a few singles from the soundtracks on my iPod and I listen to them often. XD

Hehe, I agree everyone overhypes it for a really dark thing, I don't think it is as dark but I did like the pace of it.



I can't say its an AU of Sailor Moon, but then I can, but a LOT of anime's do that and a lot of people say that. I know one that is but its one of those "mature" anime things.



I think Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne is the darkest Magical Girl I have read.

The soundtrack is simply amazing but it is sad how it is thinly like Sailor Moon.
Everyone is rather hyped about it being dark.
I like it because it is different but at the same time not really.
I agree with Siren on the Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne being quite a bit darker than Mahou Shoujo Madoka.

I really love the music and the animation. The series was great!
It's amazing, but I'm sad to say that they were kind of ripping off of Sailor Moon a little bit...
The familiars were like Youma and the witches were like those super-cruel villians.

This show is interesting. It's not your typical Magical girl anime. I've been convincing my friends to watch it. They are all getting into it.

I just discovered that there are spin-offs to Madoka. There's one called Puella Magi Kazumi Magica and another one which I can't remember the name of it. I will probably be reading manga this weekend for sure - lol ^^

I need to find these spin offs! I wonder when those were made...

i'm exited for the 3. movie.
i mean the first 2 movies will be a remake of the series but the 3. will be something new..

and good to know that my theories about the Witch "Charlotte" are confirmed to be true

They have it in the production notes that Charlotte wanted to wish away her and her mother’s cancer, but thought that Kyubey couldn’t grant such a remarkable wish. so instead she wished to have her favorite dessert with her mother before she died. After her mother’s death, Kyubey asked Charlotte why she didn’t wish for a cure. The grief from realizing she constrained her imagination when it came to her chance to wish for anything is what turned her into the witch of sweets.

I watched this anime some weeks ago, and I must admit that I was very surprised.

A friend told me to watch it and I was sure that it would be another Sailor Moon ripoff, but I was wrong.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica takes a lot of different styles and mix them together into a mix of laughter, sadness and total melancholy.
And the most surprising thing of all: It actually works.
Personally, I think that everyone that likes anime should watch this one, there is nothing to lose!

to bad it's just fake, a Puella Magi with THIS weapon would be awesome. haha awesome troll

but at least they will be a Kyoko/Mami Spin-Off Manga this october in japan (people who have knowledge of the PSP-Game and the drama-CDs know that the two have a backround story toghter that was not shown in the anime)

I just recently finished all of Madoka and I loved this series! I don't see how Madoka is a rip off of Sailor Moon any more than every magical girl anime series in existence could be considered a "rip off" of Sailor Moon. I don't think the girls in Madoka are knockoffs of the Sailor Soldiers; they're twists on magical girl archetypes. I love how the series takes the traditional magical girl elements and turns it completely upside down on its head. Everything is turned upside down, from the idea of magical girls having to hide their true identity being something really horrible and not just a convenient plot device, to explaining how magical girls gain such incredible strength and speed when they transform in one of the most twisted ways imaginable. I would have to say my favorite character is Homura. Right off from the start, I knew I was going to love her best. I love how she starts off as the typical too cool for words magical girl but then you find out about her incredible past and how she became that way and what her goal in the series is.

The ending to Madoka is one of the greatest anime endings ever and it was so beautiful it made me cry. Of course the animation is fantastic also. I was surprised as to how beautiful it turned out, considering Madoka was made as a late night anime for male otaku which usually get lower budgets it seems like. The music was also fantastic by one of my favorite anime composers, Yuki Kaijura. I'm looking forward to the third movie too but I really wish there was somehow a second season to this series. I hope SHAFT won't let this amazing series die off and do more with it in the future. I also hope that Madoka's success will lead to more serious and darker magical girl anime being made in the future. Minene, have you ever seen Shamanic Princess? I think you would like that OVA if you liked Madoka.

I've started this series and so far I love it! The drawings on the witch part are really weird and trippy and I feel like they kind of don't fit with the show... but they do add that dark thing that everyone is talking about. I wish the animation was a little better, there are a few times when like the perspective is messed up and the horizon will take up the whole screen instead of half if that makes sense. But of course, Sailor Moon has little things like that too and it's still amazing I haven't watched most of it yet though, so I'm not reading some of the stuff that you guys have posted if I can tell it's going to give away the ending

Okay I have a question for you guys now that I've finished this show, is it set in the future or something? Because all of the electronics and appliances and etc. are super futuristic. I mean I doubt it is but I'm just wondering what you all think of that?
