Here's a fun thought; Usagi vs. Serena, as in they're both inside of a squared circle and it's a doppelganger face-off >:3
xD nah, that's me being silly. =3
My friends simply go with calling her Sailor Moon. However I'll always remember her as my "Role Model". =D

I had forgotten that Sailor Moon's name was Serena once upon a time. When I got back into the series I preferred the original names right off the bat, especially Usagi. I always like translations to stay as true to the source as possible, but it does makes sense for them to have changed the names for a younger audience. I can just imagine their reaction to the proper ones... "Her name is 'ew soggy'??"

I grew up with the dub also and always thought Serena was a very pretty name. Now I'm watching the sub after all these years and have gotten used to the name Usagi. It sounds bubbly and cute to me. Serena sounds more refined and elegant. I guess to each's own.

Can't stand the dub; she's Usagi to me.

Usagi for me, Serena is a lovely name but I prefer dubs been closer to the original version, Many people I've met on the internet also call her Bunny!

I watched the dub first but quickly switched over to subs. I don't hate the dub because I have some fond memories of watching it, but to me, she is Usagi. When it comes to her Anglicized name (although I don't see a need for one), I prefer Mixx's choice of "Bunny." Serena is a lovely name, but it sounds much too calm for Usagi. Bunny is the English equivalent of her name and really suits the character more.

I like the name Serena, but I like Usagi better cause to me Serena represnts how bad the dub was.

I don't hate either one. I am however more inclined to read fanfiction if they use the original names. I remember when I first started, I had all the Japanese names written down with the dub names next to them so I could keep them straight on fics. Now I write using the Japanese names. My times have changed.

Honestly, I like Serena. I mean, nothing wrong with Usagi, but I guess I grew up with Serena so I feel more of an attachment to that name, but not to the point that I'd demand Viz to bring it back XD

I guess I´m fine with both names...
Though Serena actually fits a lot, since she´s Sailor Moon and a princess from the Moon Kingdom. And Selene is the moon goddess. I have no trouble with this name at all.

I prefer Usagi more than Serena, which itself is a good name, but the Japanese original is the original and I like it much better than the DiC English dub.

I am okay with both Usagi or Serena, but I am glad that Viz kept her original name for the new dub and new merchandise. What bothered me most when it came to names in the original dub were those given to some of the villains since their names were romanized to begin with. Mineral names are practically international (with a few of the pre-IMA named species possessing names that vary with language), so DiC and Cloverway honestly had no excuse
if they were reading through rock and mineral guidebooks to figure out the names.

I go by this little self rule that if the character is based heavly to be or looks western i will go with the english version and watch in it dub. Because even though their might be bad voice acting or so which (some people in the world dont sound like what they look like) it feels right for what the settings is. Sorry for getting off topic

I prefer Serena cause the meaning behind as in, the shorten version of her princess name. And it is easier to say as an English speaker. Also, with the new dubs, the way the VAs says it just sounds unnatural and I hate it. I like keeping easy English name for dubs and keep the Japanese name for subs.

Definitely Usagi for me. Practically every other anime (at least in recent years) keeps the original names when they dub it in English. I understand in the 90's the desire to Americanize anime, but I strongly disagree with the practice, especially as anime in general has become increasingly popular (man, if I had the access to anime 15 years ago that I have now, my entire young adult life would have been different lol).
Serena may have been my introduction to the BSSM world, but Usagi is who I pick.

For me,it comes down to contextualization.
Unless you're familiar with Japanese mythology 'Usagi' doesn't make much sense (Why haven't they released Sailor Moon inspired Moon Cakes?!?!? I know they're originally from Chinese mythology, but they're also sold in Japan, so...). On the other hand 'Selene' and its variants make more sense within a Western context, so it could really go either way which fits with most of the series anyway.
Curiously (not going off topic) 'Hotaru' and the 'Silence Glaive' are one of those grey areas. The name itself remains uncontextualized within the dub, whereas the Silence Glaive is almost always cited as being from Greco-Roman mythology as opposed to rightful emphasis on the three imperial treasures as the supplied context which would then make the 'Silence Glaive' the Ame no Nuboko. This actually fits quite well with Saturn's role in the Dreams Arc where she is seen wielding and observing an orery charting the birth, death, and ordering of new heavenly bodies.

I use the word 'Usagi', but I really think Serena fits. I mean I grew up with the name 'Serena'.
The only true reason I use Usagi is because I prefer to use original name in the anime and manga fandom.
Also because I'm a weebo.

I like both. They both have meaning with the Moon which I'm glad DIC took the time to do that actually.
Like Darien's last name being Sheilds which goes back to his original name Mamoru which means protector.
But Usagi sounds cute <3
