PostSubject: How impartial is Queen Serenity?   Mon Oct 20, 2014 5:41 am

I was watching the Korean melodrama 'Yellow Boots' for the past couple days where one of the supporting leads; an experienced lawyer, in order to cover up the hit-and-run accident his daughter (the main antagonist) committed, scapegoats his soon-to-be stepdaughter (the female lead) for the crime and sends her to prison.

So, it set me thinking: just how impartial is Queen Serenity? Would she be like the main antagonist's father; willing to do just about anything to cover up her daughter's wrongdoings?  confused Shocked

Well parents who love their children will usually do anything to protect them; case and point we have parents of serial killers and rapists who still love their child. HOWEVER, Queen Serenity it's just any parent. She's a Queen and not just any Queen, but High Queen over the Silver Millennium. Thus I'd like to think that while she loves her daughter greatly, her responsibilities, duties, and royal moral compass would not allow her to cross a certain line of how much she would do for her only child. Princess Serenity, is after all, the next in line to the throne and Queen Serenity has to consider the good of the solar system and what kind of message that sends to cover up her daughter's wrongdoings and what that would teach Princess Serenity.

And from what's been mentioned, Queen Serenity is a good Queen, so I seriously doubt that she would allow her daughter that much leeway of hiding her wrongdoings.

But didn't Queen Serenity let the Princess neglect her responsibilities and run off to Earth (which as forbidden at that time) on a whim? Not only that, the Princess also left the Moon without any security detail – several times!

And how about the potential diplomatic consequences that could have erupted if anything happened to Princess Serenity while she was taking an impromptu vacation on Earth?

I mean, really, had Princess Serenity taken her responsibilities seriously, or Queen Serenity attempted to do something about her daughter's behavior, the love triangle that set Beryl off would not have happened.

You bring up a good point, however I also wonder how much of the situation was Queen Serenity aware of. When Sailor Moon and the Senshi go to the Moon after Endymion has been captured to learn of their past, they are greeted by an image generated by the Queen's memories and the Moon Castle's Eternity Main System computer. How much of what Queen Serenity's hologram is her memories and what the computer itself probably recorded of what happened. As we don't have enough information on the computer, I can only speculate that it also had the ability to record what's going on like a security system and that the Senshi had access to it (most likely Mercury, which probably means it was developed by Mercurians). Thus what is told could not be entirely the Queen's knowledge.

And yes the Queen as the Queen should and would have access to the computer, however my impression is that the Senshi while scolding the Princess also covered for her as well. So I think the Queen didn't really know at least not until it was too late and when Endymion's on their door step trying to protect his OTP from Beryl and her army. Any reigning ruler is a busy individual and while I'm sure Queen Serenity would have made time for her daughter, perhaps as she got older the time was less because the Princess was old enough to understand things and why her mother was busy.

So it's quite possible that Queen Serenity didn't know until much later. Also Beryl is unstable, possessive, obsessive rhymes with witch stalker. She was ripe for the picking for Metallia because she would NEVER be the one for Endymion and if it wasn't Serenity, it would have been another woman that set her and sell her soul for the power to try to force Endymion to be hers. However, I believe it would have been Serenity regardless. The way the series is written, I believe Serenity and Endymion are soulmates, one way or another they would have found each other.

Also, I don't remember in the series them saying that Serenity neglected her responsibilities. Take time away from them, yes, but that didn't mean she didn't do the things she was supposed to do.

But, which sensible Guardian/protector would cover for the Princess when the correct thing to do is to report it?

Because they're teenagers. Yes, they are princesses, next in line to the throne, and Senshi, but they are teenagers just as Princess Serenity is. I'm guessing they are either the same age as they are in modern Tokyo or a little older during the Silver Millennium, so about 14-16. A time of raging hormones, rebellions, and cocky belief of being invincible. True, not all teenagers are like this, but from observing my peers while growing up and then my 17 year old baby sister and her friends, a good percentage do.

That combination and the knowledge that between the four of them can control the elements? Well they probably figured they could handle the situation without worrying the adults or getting their best friend in trouble. Perhaps Mercury being the more logical and level-headed might have been the voice of reason to say otherwise, but with the others arguing their points and a confidence in her own intelligence and ability to reason and plan, she probably came around to thinking that they could handle the situation.

As for Princess Serenity, while she did sneak off to earth, I highly doubt she did so without some thought and planning on how to accomplish it with the least amount of risk to herself or cause problems. Was it good of her to do that? Were the Senshi right for hiding it? No to both, but teens don't always make the wisest choices. Let's face it a lot of young adults and even people older don't either. I'm going on 30 in a few short hours and in the past year I can name a few less then wise decisions I made.
