90s Anime & MangaAppearance:
Meredith is best identified by her bright, sea green eyes. She has long, elegant lashes, and if you look deep enough, you can see waves in her irises. She has long, silver hair that curls naturally, reaching her waist. She has pale, fair skin and a bright, gentle smile. Her nose is petite, along with her ears and her body. She stands at a short 5'3", and has a thin figure. Meredith will not wear anything that is not a gown. The gowns she wears are typically thin, light, and flowing, because she doesn't like the feeling of being weighed down by anything. She always has her tiara on her head, which is made from silver, diamonds, and pearls fashioned to look like starfish and seaweed.Personality:
Meredith is very calm, friendly, and mature. She treats others with respect and always helps a friend in need. She is a very good listener, and she seems to have a knack for knowing what people want to hear and giving good advice. Meredith is also very perceptive, because she feels like it is her duty to watch over and protect everything and everyone. Her wisdom and patience give her an almost motherly-approach to others, even to those who are older than her. However, because Meredith is so mature, she has trouble dealing with ignorance, stupidity, and immaturity. People who fall in those categories strike a special nerve within her, and Meredith will do one of two things: snap, or shut down. When she snaps, others know that she's mad and it would be best to leave her alone. When she shuts down, she completely stops involving herself with others and lets her frustrations work themselves out. Meredith also tends to put the needs of others before her own, and so she sometimes gets very self-conscious and morose. It is hard for her to feel good about herself, because she had never felt any kind of love or affection. Finding love and making friends are among her most favorable dreams, and she hopes that one day she will get the chance to do those things. Although she is kind to all she meets, none have ever made an attempt to actually befriend her. She's a little socially awkward, mainly because she doesn't engage in many social activities. As a princess, she is mainly summoned when someone needed something from her, not for any other reason. Meredith hates the cold, and she can't function properly in cold or icy conditions. She also can't handle public embarrassment, or any kind of humiliation. Although she doesn't appear to be sensitive, Meredith is extremely vulnerable and cries whenever she messes up or is humiliated in some way. However, she is good at keeping her regal composure and sophisticated aura in any situation. Meredith is also very pious. On Varuna, it was known by all that their planet was created and watched over by the Vedic god Varuna. This belief lasted during the migration to Neptune, and so Meredith and her people continue to worship Varuna and practice the Vedic religion. They pray to their god for many things, including good health, good fortune, a good harvest, etc. Additionally, Varuna's followers make sacrifices to him by throwing some food from every meal into a sacred fire. The people of Varuna also place law on a very high pedestal, because Varuna is the god of water, the celestial ocean, law and the underwater world. She prays constantly for the good of her people, and she uses her religion to help her through hard times. She is a firm believer of "everything happens for a reason" and she believes that nothing is impossible. Any Unique Abilities/Skills:
Meredith is a fantastic swimmer - no one has ever been able to top her speed and form when in the water, but that's probably because she never needs to come up for air (aka she can breathe underwater). She can also teleport between the Heavens, the Universe, and the Underworld, but this ability doesn't come until after she gains her senshi powers. Meredith's prayers have been said to perform miracles, but many are wary of this because she prays to both Heaven and Hell.History:
Meredith was born on the planet Varuna, a small planet located in the Kuiper Belt just beyond Neptune. Varuna was a beautiful, celestial planet that was covered in large bodies of water, beautiful forests, and unique landscapes. Raised by her parents, the king and queen, Meredith developed a very sophisticated, mature personality at a young age. She desired to become as beautiful and as beloved as her mother, and that was her goal all throughout her early childhood years. However, times began to get rough when Meredith was seven years old. Good harvests were harder to obtain, crime in the villages was increasing, and life expectancy was decreasing. The king and queen did their absolute best to support their people and help them with anything they needed. Their strong message of how their god Varuna would protect them and watch over them was held close to the hearts of most Varunic people. However, a band of rebels were not happy with the messages imposed by the king and queen. They believed it was time for a change, one that would rid them of their "god" and establish an entirely new outlook on life. They believed that since their god had let things get so bad, there was no "god" to begin with. The rebels managed to gather a huge army that they used to attack the Varuna Palace. The villages around the planet were raided and destroyed, all so that the rebel group could create their own government and recreate the population of Varuna. On Meredith's eighth birthday, word reached the king and queen, and so they gathered all of the civilians they could and sent them to Neptune, along with their daughter. They knew she was the only one who could grow up to save the planet and get rid of the rebels for good. Before they sent her away, however, they gifted her with a letter that she was only allowed to read when she turned eighteen.
So Meredith was sent away, and she spent the rest of her life on Neptune. At age eight, she was forced to grow up immediately. Although she had servants to watch over her, she was always taking care of herself and making sure everyone around her was safe and content. She grew to be a very responsible, fair ruler for her people, who had made their home within Neptune's palace (with the planet's princess's consent).
Meredith had not seen or heard from her parents for ten years. She grew accustomed to life without a person to look up to or admire. She grew to only count on herself, and thus grew very independent. Despite this, she ruled over those who remained from Varuna, and governed them with fairness and love. She was favored by all, and as their population grew, her popularity only increased.
When Meredith is eighteen, she finally gets to read the letter that had been awaiting her since she left Varuna. Inside, she read that she was destined for greatness, and that blessings of the gods were within her. Now that she was eighteen, it was up to her to discover that power, harness it, and use it to regain possesion of their beloved planet.
Her only dilemma was figuring out how.Other Noteworthy Information:
Meredith is a Virgo, with an O- blood type. Her favorite gemstone is the Hiddenite, and her favorite flower is the Lotus Flower. She has the habit of staring into space while she analyzes decisions and situations, and she tends to pop her knuckles when she's nervous. She is exceptionally good at deciphering literature, but she hates learning of any science. Fruit smoothies are something she loves, and she despises vegetables.Storyline Specific Information: Solar Prominence -
Many, many years after Crystal Tokyo was created, the planets of Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars have been destroyed by the Sun, and a new ruler has risen to power in the Solar System. Sailor senshi are a thing of the past. Queen Sol is actually the despised enemy, Chaos, and she has taken the Sailor Crystals from each planet the Sun has destroyed. The Silver Crystal, however, is still missing. Sailor Pluto has been captured and put into stasis, but her Crystal remains within her body. Sailor Cosmos, who has been banished by Queen Sol, searches the galaxy for Sailor Senshi to aid her in her quest of finding and recovering the Silver Crystal (and other Sailor Crystals). Meredith, who is living on Neptune, is approached by Cosmos and given the ability to fight as a Sailor Senshi as a member of the White Moon Resistance.Remnants -
In an alternate timeline, Meredith is from the planet Varuna in the Indra Galaxy. When the rebels began their assault against the king and queen, Meredith and any citizens they could gather fled the planet and took refuge on the planet Mitra. For ten years, Meredith governed her people and tried her hardest to be the princess they needed. On her eighteenth birthday, Meredith was confronted by the legendary Sailor Cosmos, who told her of her destiny as a sailor soldier. According to Cosmos, she was granted power by the gods, and this power was to be used to regain control over Varuna later on in Meredith's life (after she received enough training and experience). Cosmos told Meredith that all this time, the tiara that Meredith always wore had the power to transform her into a sailor senshi. All Meredith had to do was tap the tiara and it would shroud her in white light, transforming her into Sailor Varuna, the senshi of water and the celestial ocean. Cosmos then sent Meredith to the Solar System, where she would land on Earth during the reign of Neo Queen Serenity. Once there, Meredith would train with the Sailor Quartet, developing her powers and becoming accustomed to senshi life. Every now and then, Meredith would be sent on solo and group missions throughout the Solar System. When the Crystal Tokyo Sensors picked up a distress call from a far-off planet, Meredith was quick to volunteer to be a part of the team that would investigate the call for help. This would be her first big mission, and Meredith is determined not to fail.
In this alternate timeline, Meredith is not a part of the White Moon Resistance, and so her senshi fuku changes. The tiara on her forehead is silver with a casal gem in the center. Silver star earrings hang from her ears, and a royal blue choker necklace is on her neck. Varuna's collar is casal with one white stripe along the edge. Her sleeves are made of three layers, and they are white like the rest of her senshi leotard. The bow on her chest is royal blue, as is the long bow on the back of her waist. Varuna's short, pleated skirt is made of two layers, with the top being casal and the lower layer being royal blue. The gloves are royal blue and fingerless, and they only extend to Varuna's wrists. They are also trimmed in white. Casal wrap-around heels are on Varuna's feet.Saving Tien - In Varuna's alternate timeline (mentioned above in Remnants), she was sent back in time to learn the ways of the past and start a typical civilian life. This is how she ended up in Tokyo during the time of this RP.
Tien was once a fairy who aided sailor senshi with her ability to summon familiars. Due to a dark spell, Tien was trapped in a cave long ago. Together with some friends, Varuna will journey to save Tien, and maybe even get a familiar of her own.
Senshi Name: Sailor Varuna
Realm of Influence(s): Water and the Celestial Ocean
Henshin/Transformation Phrase: Varuna Power, Make-Up!
Senshi Fuku: Sailor Varuna's uniform consists of a long sleeved white shirt with a casal collar. The collar has a white arrowhead decoration at the narrowest fold of the collar in the front of the uniform. Along the edge is a single white stripe. The back of the collar has an angled upside-down v-shaped edge. Fitted into each of the outer corners is a silver arrowhead design. On the white sleeves, at the upper area of each arm, is a casal upside down v-shaped insignia. The folded back cuffs of the long sleeves mimic the sailor collar: casal, with a thin white strip along the edge of the cuff closest to the sleeve. Peeking out from beneath the cuffs of the long sleeves are rhino blue fingerless gloves that form a v-shape over the top of the hand, with the point of the v close to the middle finger. The edges of these gloves are bordered in silver. Knotted under the collar is a rhino blue silk scarf with wide, stiff ends that appear almost like the tails of a bow. Her White Moon Pin covers the knot in the scarf. Another scarf in the same color is warpped around her neck and knotted. Over the white shirt is a casal high waist bodice. It cuts just below Varuna's breasts and ends just over the hips in a low v-shape over the short pleated skirt. There is silver piping along the edges and in two princess-seamed parallel vertical lines in the front and back. Rhino blue curved, split shirt tails peek out below the bodice and above the skirt in the back of the uniform. Silver earrings shaped like stars dangle from her ears, and a thin silver tiara with a casal gem in the center is on her forehead. Varuna also has casal high heels wrap around her ankles. Her hair remains long and silver, only now it is in the half-up, half-down hairstyle to keep it out of her face.
Ourania Teleport - Because of Varuna's connection to the celestial ocean, she has the power to teleport between the Heavens, the Underworld, and the world in which we all live. By speaking this phrase and focusing on where she desires to go, she can travel between them. However, she cannot teleport between places in one realm. For example, in our world, she cannot travel from point A to point B. She can allow travel between worlds, not throughout them. Teleporting in this manner does take up a great deal of energy, because Varuna is so young and inexperienced.
Varuna Heavenly Wave - By channeling her connection to the Heavens, Varuna can summon a large ball of water that she pushes towards her enemy. Varuna believes this water attack is guided by the angels she summons upon performing it.
Fallen Divinity - This defensive synergizing ability requires Varuna to channel her link with the Underworld. Upon speaking the defense phrase, a link is formed with a demonic god that aids her in strength and bravery, making it harder for an enemy to deal effective damage for a short period of time.
Weapons or Magical Items:
White Moon Resistance Pin - This pin is a silver circle, with a white crescent moon within. The crescent moon is surrounding a casal colored circle. A silver arrowhead is on the pin, extending over the circle's edge, and a golden eight-pointed star is within the arrowhead. This pin allows Varuna to transform, and it allows her to communicate with the other members on her journey.
Celestial Tiara - This silver tiara is always worn by Meredith when in her regular human form. It is fashioned from pure silver and diamonds, and it harbors the ability to transform Meredith into a sailor senshi.
RP Sample: The brightness of the sun could be identified even at night. When Neptune's back was turned on the yellow orb, it's immense power still radiated, making the sky a unique blood-orange at night. How long had it been since Meredith had seen the dark skies of dusk?
Ten years. Ten years since the fall of her planet, and ten years since she had said good-bye to her parents. Today was her eighteenth birthday, the ten-year mark of the day she left her planet for good. She stood on the balcony that was connected to her bedroom in the Palace of Neptune, leaning over the stone railing as she gazed up at the fiery sky. The hot wind gently rolled across her face, whisking her long hair to the side as her eyes filled with tears. In her hands was the letter her parents had given her the day she left her home, demanding that she never open it until she turned eighteen. And here she was, clutching the words her parents had written her, struggling to find the courage to read them. Taking a deep breath, she looked down at the thin piece of paper and began to read.
My Beautiful Princess,
Happy Birthday, darling. We are so proud of you. Dearest Meredith, you are the most courageous young woman to ever exist in the galaxy, and for that, we could not be more grateful to call you our daughter. We can only dream of how beautiful, elegant, and kind you are at this point in your life.
It was not kind of us to force you to grow up at such a young age. It was not fair to you, and for that we are sorry. There is nothing we regret more than sending you away, and it will haunt us every day of our lives. But we knew when we said good-bye that we were doing the right thing.
Meredith, the Gods have blessed you. They see the hardship you face, and your bravery has inspired them. You are destined for greatness, darling. There are things you are capable of that no other mortal can accomplish, and we cannot wait for you to find those things and use them to do great things. We have faith in you, Meredith. We know that you will rescue our beautiful world, and return it to the place of clarity it once was.
We love you, Meredith - we have always loved you. We look forward to seeing you again.
With faith and love,
Mom and Dad
Meredith clenched the letter tightly, her body feeling like it was suffocating. Tears flowed freely from her eyes, falling onto the stone railing. This was her parents. They wrote this.
But what did it mean? 'Destined for greatness?' Meredith was never able to do anything special. Her life revolved around prayers and wishing on stars, but what did that do? The occasional miracle, sure. But Meredith needed more than a miracle. She needed her parents.
