Is anyone else watching this new anime from Kunihiko Ikuhara? It has shoujo-ai relationships, Ikuhara's random symbolism taken to the extremes, beautiful animation, and a bizarre but also compelling plot. I am conflicted by all the fanservice in the show but I'm giving it a shot just because it's Ikuhara and I have trust in him to pull this series off.

Here's more information I found from myanimelist
Some time ago, the asteroid Kumaria exploded in the depths of space.
The resulting fragments became a meteor shower that rained down on Earth, and for some reason, bears all over the world rose up and attacked humanity! In "Man vs. Bear," the bears ate the humans and the humans shot the bears, resulting in a seemingly unending battle and a cycle of hatred. In the end, a giant "Wall of Severance" was erected between the humans and bears and a state of mutual nonaggression came to pass...
The human world.
One morning, Arashigaoka Academy students Kureha Tsubaki and Sumika Izumino were by themselves and saw the "Yuri Flower" that bloomed in a flower bed. The two are friends as well as lovers. The flower bed is an important place to the two. At that moment, the Bear Alarms ring out! The bears are invading the human world, and humans are being attacked! Are they really those bears? One mystery invokes yet another mystery, one after another. The curtain rises magnificently on Yuri Kuma Arashi!

Despite all the confusion running down my mind while watching, I loved the results in this anime. The ending is really cute and beautiful, and there were many surprises along the episodes. I have watched other works from Ikuhara and liked them a lot too, so I guess the minor plot holes (if there's any) couldn't bother me XD

I love this show! (In general, I'm a huge fan of Ikuhara.) I thought that the overall story line, the art direction, and the messages within were great. Some of my favourite aspects were the nods to other places and films—in particular, the references to horror movies.
The exterior of the school is apparently based on the Hibiya Library and Museum: http://delicious-smell.tumblr.com/post/114081618466/arashigaoka-academy-locations-exterior-hibiya That same post shows some other real-life Japanese locations used for the show, as well.
The design of the school closely resembles the design of the dance school and other buildings featured in the 1977 horror movie Suspiria. You can see some comparison shots between the show and the film documented here: http://delicious-smell.tumblr.com/tagged/suspiria
Kureha's house is basically a pinker-decorated Bates Motel from Psycho (1960): http://delicious-smell.tumblr.com/tagged/psycho
And the pattern on the Wall of Severance is the same as the carpet motif in The Shining (1980): http://delicious-smell.tumblr.com/post/107945732851/honeycomb-carpet-pattern-from-the-shining
It's also a GREAT series for Ikhuara Bingo. ;D
