Mulan is the only child of Fa Zhou, a former war veteran, and Fa Li. Mulan is forced to go to town to meet the Matchmaker to find her husband, which ends in a humiliating failure.Shortly after, the Emperors counselor, Chi-Fu, arrives in her village to announce that the Huns have invaded China and that one man in every family must serve in the war.Despite her protests, her father insists on serving despite his old age. Mulan decides to go in his place posing as a man. She cuts her long hair with a sword, steals her fathers armor and rides away on her horse Khan so she can keep him from risking his life.
On her way to the army camp, Mulan meets Mushu, a small dragon who claims he was sent by her ancestors to guide her.He agrees to help her pass as a soldier. Under the guise of Ping, Mulan arrives at the army camp ready to train.Though she fails army training at first, she uses her intelligence to solve a puzzle set by Li Shang, her units commanding officer.
Mulan rapidly progresses to be the best soldier in the unit, impressing Shang and the other soldiers. She befriends Yao, Ling and Chien-Po, three fellow soldiers. They're eventually called to the war front.
After finding that the Chinese army, led by Shang's father General Li, has been completely destroyed by the Huns, Shang leads Mulan and the other soldiers to battle. Despite the unit being greatly outnumbered, Mulan is able to defeat the Huns by using a rocket to cause an avalanche.Shan-Yu slashes her with his sword, injuring her in the process. Due to this, her true gender is revealed later on. She is spared death as Shang's way of repaying the debt from Mulan for rescuing him.
Mulan is left behind by the army and she prepares to return home, but she discovers that Shan-Yu and five other Huns survived and are making their way towards the Imperial City. Mulan attempts to warn Shang but she's ignored because she's a woman. However, when Shan-Yu kidnaps the Emperor ,Shang, Yao, Ling and Chien-Po join her in a rescue attempt. Mulan disguises herself, Ling, Yao and Chien-Po as concubines and take out the Hun guards, allowing Shang to reach the Emperor. Mulan reveals herself as the soldier who took down most of the Hun army. While running from Shan-Yu, she concocts a plan to kill him with fireworks.Mulan faces Shan-Yu on the roof of the Emperors palace. She disarms him with her paper fan and pins him to the roof with his sword allowing Mushu to fire fireworks, presumably killing him.
Mulan is then confronted by the Emperor with her various crimes, having heard about them from Chi-Fu. At the same time, he acknowledges that she saved all of China and bows to her out of respect. The Emperor gifts her with his personal crest and the sword of Shan-Yu. She returns home and presents these to her father. Shang comes over to 'return her helmet', and Mulan asks him to stay for dinner.Mulan 2:
Taking place one month later, Li Shang, now promoted to General, proposes to Mulan and they begin preparing for their wedding. However, the Emperor tasks them with escorting his three young daughters to the neighboring kingdom of Qui Gong in an attempt to form an alliance. Should the alliance fall, the Mongols would invade just like the Huns did. Mulan and Shang enlist the help of Ling, Yao and Chien-Po. Shang and Mulan's relationship becomes somewhat strained during the trip as both have different views on various issues, particularly the arranged marriages the Princesses are forced into. Meanwhile, Mushu is informed that if Mulan marries Shang, he would no longer have his guardian job and instead be the Gong Ringer. Mushu attempts to break them up and almost succeeds but Mulan discovers Mushu's plans and reconciles with Shang.
Before she can talk to Shang, the group are ambushed by bandits, who attempt to kidnap Princess Mei. They manage to save her but are left hanging from a broken bridge. Shang sacrifices himself as the rope can only hold one. Assuming his dead, Mulan, the soldiers and the princesses continue towards Qui Gong. Seeing the princesses have fallen in love with Ling, Yao and Chien-Po, Mulan prepares to offer herself as bride in places. However, Shang is revealed to have survived the fall and travels to stop her. Mushu is able to fix things by masquerading as the Golden Dragon of Unity and forces the King to stop the wedding. The princesses are released from their vows and Shang and Mulan reunite. They later hold the wedding at the Fa home,. Mushu is able to retain his position of guardianship.
Several Years later, Mulan is now the Emperor's advisor. She has three children: Fa Lin, Fa Shi and Fa Jao.
Although, three weeks after the Emperor's birthday, Mulan began to notice strange things happen to the Emperor. He seemed to be making bad decisions and would not listen to Mulan's advice. Slowly, the people began to tire of the Emperors incompetence and the revolution started. Mulan managed to get the Emperor and the Princesses to safety but the Soldiers (led by the revived Shan-Yu) captured Shang and her children.
Mulan is devastated by the capture and possible subsequent murder of her husband and children when the Fairy Godmother appears. She promises Mulan power so she can rescue her family from the Rebellion and Mulan accepts and becomes Sailor Hua.Other Noteworthy facts:Storyline specific information:

Mulan slid her sword into it's case, preparing to leave for battle. The Mongol's had broken their vow and were invading China. As she was the honored soldier Mulan, of course she had to step out into the battle field.
Checking that she had everything, Mulan walked out to meet her husband. Standing outside of the Fa family home was General Li Shang.
She smiled weakly as she approached him. She loved him so much, and she was scared to think what would happen during battle. She could die. He could die.
Noticing her worried expression, Shang embraced her and lightly kissed her on the cheek. "I'm not going anywhere" he whispered.
"I know" she whispered, doubtful. "Promise that your not going to die"
"I won't. I've got too much to live for"
Shang and Mulan both mounted their respective horses and set off for war, both unsure if they'd make it home alive.
