The Victorian era is my favorite time period, so of course that literature would be my favorite. So far, Jane Eyre is my favorite, but I really like Pride and Prejudice too. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are also Victorian works, I recently discovered. Are there any other fans of these books?

I don't know if these count as Victorian, but I definitely like Anne of Green Gables, A Little Princess, The Five Little Peppers, and a few other old books.

Anne of Green Gables and A Little Princess are a smidge late, but The Five Little Peppers isn't. I loved Anne of Green Gables, I read it when I was younger.

I also love Anne of Green Gables! I've read The Five Little Peppers, but it wasn't one of my favorites, even though I had it in my collection for some reason for a while.

In my Mom's house, she has a collection of late 1800s-early 1900s books on her shelf. One of the books is the famous Sherlock Holmes, for example, is a Victorian-era series of stories about the great detective in London. Written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the first Sherlock Holmes story "A study in Scarlet" involves his trip to the Salt Lake valley in Utah and the first appearance of Dr. Watson.

I love Romantic and Victorian literature. Jane Eyre is my all-time favourite. I constantly re-read it. I also adore Wuthering Heights (Brontë time all the time).

Poe, Austen, Hawthorne, both Shelleys--I love them all. I keep sending my husband love poems from Robert Browning and he seems a bit concerned by the tone... n_~ Perhaps I shouldn't have selected "My Last Duchess" and "Porphyria's Lover".

Awesome!!! I've only read one Sherlock Holmes, Hound of the Baskervilles.

Wuthering Heights is on my list, I'll definitely give it a read.

Haha, that's pretty cool!! Poor guy's probably confused.

Haha, he's more worried than confused. Robert Browning is known for dramatic dialogue with darker themes. It's not hearts and fluff.

I believe the Portrait of Dorian Grey may fall into this category. I got about half way through it on a book discussion site before it went down but it was extremely thought provoking. I intend to go back and do a re-read soon.

Oh yeah! I also read Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, which is basically Anne of Green Gables but different.

Sherlock Holmes is my homeboy! The stories are so much fun to read. I bought an illustrated version not too long ago and I can't wait to read it (although I'm pretty sure I've read most of the stories in there).
