The latest astronomical discovery (well, 3 years ago, just found out today): Earth is based in the supercluster neighborhood called Laniakea - where the Milky way galaxy, our home galaxy is one of many 100,000s in this spot of space. Laniakea is Hawaiian for "Great heaven" and this video features a map of this great heaven we call home.

I'm also an astronomy geek, so seeing this thread made me very happy! I openly admit, every time I see a program on TV (usually the Science Channel nowadays) talk about undiscovered planets within out solar system my inner fangirl starts screaming "Nemesis!!". I was especially excited when Michael Brown et al. proposed the existence of a super Earth planet as planet 9. However, the hope of a real life Nemesis has been dashed somewhat with a recent paper from The Astronomical Journal suggest the evidence for this super Earth like planet may not hold up. On the one hand I'm a bit bummed that the data from this publication doesn't fit the planet 9 orbit model (because if we find it, you can bet I'm gonna write to the International Astronomical Union to ask them to formally adopt the name Nemesis), but on the other hand, the whole life-imitating-art thing also makes we glad we might not have a killer 9th planet out there for a super villain to take over. XD;;
