I was just digging through some old files and found this poem I wrote about 6 months ago. Thought I would share so you guys can finally read one of my poems.

I wrote this remembering fun summertimes with my cousin when we were younger.

Under Auburn Skies

I remember
The taste of sweet summer raspberries
Pricking our fingers on thorns
Laughing til we cried
Fingers stained delicious red

I remember the ocean
How the waves would rock us
Very nearly drown us
And we cheered, waterlogged
Playing tag in the sun

I remember
The cool summer breezes
Sucking on ice pops
Cool grass between our toes
As the sun set

Do you remember
The magical summers
The secrets, the mystery
Each day a new adventure
And we, eager explorers

Do you remember
Sitting beneath auburn skies
Laughing and playing
Together forever
As time slipped away

And now
Our hands are bigger
And we stand taller
The years have grown us
And pulled us away

But I long
For auburn skies
Moist red raspberries
The wonder of childhood
That slipped from my grasp

Maybe someday
When life slows down
When we stop running in place
We can gaze again
At beautiful auburn skies.

I wrote a song today, tune and everything. Sadly I don't have an easy way t orecord the tune online for now but here are the words at least. ^^

It came to me during a Maritime Festival last week but I never got a chance to explore the idea. Then as I was making spaghetti tonight, the words just started coming. So I grabbed my notebook and this is what I ended up with. It sounds a lot better sung to the tune than read like this but I hope you'll get the idea.

I love nautical lore and there is an old fashioned town on the water that used to be a whaling village. Many of the houses have what are called Widow's Watches, high up windows in their homes where they could sit and watch for ships coming in when their husbands were away. So here goes:

The ocean waves roll
And the cold wind blows
The sun comes and goes
as the days...

fly by like the wind
As I sit here within
My widows watch
Watching the shore

For my husband has gone
Where the brave whalers go
Seeking his trade on the sea
While I stand alone, waiting for him
Praying he'll come back to me.

For the sea, a cruel mistress of fate
Has taken their lives in her hands
And I pray to the gods
To deliver my love
And bring him back safely to me.

The ocean waves roll
And the cold wind blows
The sun comes and goes
as the days...

fly by like the wind
As I sit here within
My widows watch
Watching the shore

You really need to hear it with the tune I made for it but maybe someday I'll make a little recording of it. Very Happy
